Ms. Smita’s husband, a postgraduate in Agriculture and Management with more than 25 years of corporate experience, provides the technical expertise to ensure that the farm remains a model of innovation and sustainability. Together, the family has built an ecosystem where agriculture, biodiversity, education, and tourism converge to offer visitors a one-of-a-kind experience.
A Legacy of Progressive Farming
The roots of NV Ecofarm go back over 60 years when Mr. Krishna Jagannath Patil and Mr. Vinayak Jagannath Patil, Ms. Smita’s in-laws, developed the land at the crest of the Western Ghats. Their forward-thinking approach transformed the farm into a hub of modern agriculture while ensuring that biodiversity was preserved.
One of the most striking symbols of this legacy is the 200-year-old Banyan tree that greets visitors at the farm’s entrance. This magnificent tree is surrounded by more than 125 forest species, each carefully identified and documented with botanical descriptions, families, species, and common names. This dedication to conservation highlights the family’s commitment to preserving the natural ecosystem while embracing agricultural growth.

Inspired by the progressive spirit of the Patil family, Ms. Smita envisioned the farm as more than just a site for agriculture. Her goal was to create an eco-tourism destination that:
